How to register on a social housing portal (inschrijven)

Why you register first

Social rental homes of Dutch housing associations are offered through regional portals. The Rijksoverheid explains that to get such a home you register with a housing corporation or with another organisation that offers social rental homes; your municipality can tell you which ones. At the portals we checked, you can only respond to a home once you are registered.

Before you start

At Wooniezie, Thuis in Limburg and Klik voor Wonen you must be 18 or older. Beyond that the portals ask for different things: Wooniezie wants an email address and the right to live in the Netherlands, Thuis in Limburg asks for Dutch nationality or a valid residence permit, and Klik voor Wonen asks for a valid ID.

In some municipalities a housing permit (huisvestingsvergunning) from the municipality is needed as well.

The steps

1. Open the portal of your region and press the registration button (on the portals we checked it reads “Nu inschrijven” or “Inschrijven”).

2. Fill in your details. Thuis in Limburg confirms the registration by email.

3. Add your income. The portals ask for the income statement (inkomensverklaring) from the Belastingdienst for everyone on the registration; Wooniezie and Klik voor Wonen do not let you respond to homes before it is added, and at Thuis in Limburg your income decides which homes you can respond to.

4. Optionally set a search profile. Wooniezie then emails you a tip when a suitable home appears.

5. Respond to the homes you like, on the portal itself.

What it costs, and renewal

This differs per portal. Registering is free at Wooniezie and Thuis in Limburg. Klik voor Wonen charges for registering (€10 from 1 January 2026). Wooniezie requires a yearly renewal, free of charge, and reminds you a month ahead.

Wooniezie and Thuis in Limburg both point out that a corporation cannot offer you a home if your details are wrong, so keep them up to date. Wooniezie adds that corporations may charge administration costs when you sign a rental agreement.

Income and conditions

A corporation may set requirements for household size and income. According to the Rijksoverheid, corporations must give most vacant homes to people with a low or middle income; the current income limits are on the Rijksoverheid page listed under sources. At Wooniezie, registering is not needed for middle-rent and free-sector homes.

After you sign a lease

At Thuis in Limburg your registration ends when you sign a rental agreement; if you move again later you register again. The rules on this can differ per portal, so read them on the portal.

Good to know

Rules, prices and conditions change and differ per portal: the portal itself is the authority. Rent Agent is an independent service; it does not register you and does not apply for homes on your behalf.
